TitlePreK-K School Guidance CounselorDescriptionJob Title PreK-K School Guidance CounselorQualifications      Must hold proper certification through Arkansas Dept of EducationPreferred: Valid Arkansas Elementary Teaching LicenseContract 205 Evaluator Building Principal (Arkansas TESS Rubric) and/or other Supervisor Job Description The PreK-K School Counselor should have a knowledge of research/evidence based practices for social emotional skill development of early childhood children.  The counselor should have an understanding of the Early Childhood Environment and SEL strategies as well as experience with emotional regulation.   Essential Job Functions- Serve as a leader in the school and community to advocate and support student success.  - Collaborate with classroom teachers, parents and administrators regarding student progress and social-emotional needs.- Work with staff to promote an understanding of human development theories and developmental issues affecting student success.   - Assist students in academic achievement, character development and introduction to careers and personal development.  - Provide individual counseling, group counseling and classroom guidance lessons.- Build relationships with individual families and maintain positive rapport through continuous communication.  - Engage parents in the intervention process and empower them by providing skills and techniques to support the positive social-emotional development of their child- Model and teach positive communication techniques and conflict resolution among students.  - Connect families with resources inside and outside of the school to meet basic needs and put other supports in place- Utilize Second Step and Conscious Discipline to deliver SEL instruction- Assist in the identification of student needs and work with the School Leadership Team to determine levels of support.- Assist in the planning and implementation of student-specific interventions for social, emotional and/or behavior skill development.- Participate in SIT meetings to guide the development of Tier III behavior interventions and student support plans.- Document interventions and support given to individual students, track data to determine progress over time.- Ongoing collaboration with district staff and counselors including monthly meetings and other opportunities as they arise. - Protect the confidentiality of student records and information in accordance with state laws and Board policies.
